The Barn at Avalon provides a perfect place for the practice of mindfulness meditation. Surrounded by a flower field, in the woods away from the busy-ness of daily life, the quietude of the space facilitates our innate capacity for mindfulness: to be awake to our experience, just as it is; to be present to the moment -- right here, right now and without resistance or judgment. Mindfulness reminds us to stop and pause, to turn inward and observe the natural working of mind and body, to respond and not simply react. We learn to reside in awareness. The practice strengthens attention and concentration, cultivates self-acceptance and compassion, 

develops greater resilience and equanimity in the face of stress.


We offer several different formats for learning and practicing mindfulness for both beginning and more experienced meditators.



Beginning Mindfulness Meditation

A good way to start, or strengthen, your home practice, this foundational class reviews the essential elements of mindfulness meditation and guides several mindfulness practices.  Intended to strengthen inherent capacities for wellness and resilience, this beginning class will be offered twice.

 

Dates: Thursday,  July 15 from  11:00am - 12:15 pm

            Thursday,  August 5, from  4:30 - 5:45 pm

Deepening Your Practice Classes (DYP)

Single classes intended for those with some prior meditation experience.

Classes are often themed and include reflections on a selected aspect of mindfulness 

that are then highlighted in guided practices, personal inquiry and observations.

MINDFUL​NESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION (MBSR) - Autumn 2021

Known as the "Gold Standard" for learning mindfulness meditation for stress reduction and wellness, MBSR is a structured and supportive 9-week, 27.5 hour course developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn

at UMASS Medical School Center for Mindfulness in 1979. Step by step guidance that teaches mindfulness meditation as a way to take better care of yourself, build resilience and live a healthier, more adaptive life. Instead of reacting to stress in habitual ways, you can learn to respond with new and constructive strategies. Consider joining us as we practice together in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Half-day Silent Retreat

For those with prior meditation experience, this half-day of intensive guided practice 

is held in the context of silence.  Intended to offer a time and space to deepen your connection with yourself and with practice.
